The parents of Kenia Monge lived a similar nightmare one year ago.

Their 19 year old daughter went missing in April of last year.

Her killer led police to her body months later.

Monge's family shared their story with 9NEWS in hopes of giving support to Jessica's family.

For five months and seven days, all Tony and Maria Lee had was hope.

"It's an emotion. It's a very powerful emotion," Tony Lee said. "It keeps you going. It gets you up the next day to keep on looking for her."

His stepdaughter Kenia Monge went missing on April 1 after a night out in LoDo.

"September 7th is the time that I got the call [that she was dead]," Lee said. "It paralyzes you. You become numb."

Kenia's killer Travis Forbes led police to her body, buried about 40 miles northeast of Denver.

He's serving a life sentence for Kenia's murder, and the attempted murder of Lydia Tillman in Fort Collins.

"It's a whole other level of grief," Lee said.

One year later, Lee says he and his wife haven't even come close to healing.

"Everyday [Maria] cries. A day has not gone by that she hasn't talked about her or she hasn't cried for her," Lee said.

He says their tears flowed even more this week when they learned a killer took another family's child.

"This person that did this to that little girl is still out there. The devil is walking amongst us," Lee said. "I pray to God that he's caught and if he's caught soon. Because if he's not caught soon, it's just a matter of time before he strikes again. And he will strike again."

Lee hopes to talk to the Ridgeway family.

He knows, as few people do, that nothing he says can erase their pain.

"They're in our thoughts and they're in our prayers. Every second of everyday as we go forward, they will be with us in our thoughts and prayers," Lee said.

In the year since Kenia's murder, Lee says he's been in touch with the families of 50 missing people.

Most of them found him through the Kenia Monge Foundation Facebook page.

Of those 50, 46 are safely back home and four are still missing.
