It's a safe place where kids can have fun while parents take a break. This night was special, because the community dedicated the weekly event to Jessica Ridgeway.

The event costs $10 to get in and three of those dollars will go to Jessica's family.

Parents and kids lined up inside the rec center just before 7:00 p.m. Parents were excited to give themselves and their kids a break from worrying.

"Everything has changed," a mother said. "They can't go out and play. This is the one place we can take them."

"Kids' Nite Out Across America" is the one place where kids can be kids, play games, swim, dance and enjoy time with their friends all while being protected.

"I'm really glad it's secure. Everyone dealing with the kids has been screened. Police are outside," Kim Smith said. "It's a relief. We can enjoy a few hours without worrying."

The Westminster Police Department says they will be hosting their annual Halloween Carnival on October 27 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the City Park Recreational Center.

The department says it's a safer alternative to trick-or-treating. Kids will have a chance to get candy, play games and win prizes.
