Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor told KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs that 42-year-old Randal Scott Alire was taken into custody Tuesday in Elbert County.

Investigators started searching for Alire after he missed a Pueblo court appearance Monday. The court appearance was related to his Oct. 1 arrest on suspicion of menacing with a deadly weapon and domestic violence after allegedly holding his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint.

A GPS search of Alire's cell phone placed in him the southern Elbert County area. Deputies were able to make contact with Alire. The fugitive told deputies he would surrender, but he failed to do so.

A massive amount of resources were used to capture Alire during the 26 hour search.

The Elbert County Sheriff's Office used its deputies, SWAT, K-9 units, and armored vehicles.

Alire is on administrative leave from the sheriff's department, where he has been employed since January 2011.
