The 52-foot-tall cowboy greeted visitors to the State Fair of Texas with a recorded "Howdy, folks."
Big Tex stood over the fairgrounds for 60 years, until it was destroyed by a fire last Friday. The charred remains were hauled away on a flatbed truck in what looked a bit like a funeral procession.
Officials vow a new Big Tex will be ready for next year's fair.
