Firefighters say the fire began at a home on Ute Road, about an hour southwest of Denver near Pine.
It may have originated in a chimney, then spread to an attic, taking several hours to extinguish.
The injured firefighter was taken by ambulance to an Elk Creek fire station where he was flown to the hospital.
Firefighters say there is also a risk the firefighter may have inhaled cyanide, a byproduct of combustion.
Officials with Elk Creek fire did not know the firefighter's condition.
