GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - Experts who want to know more about the impact of fracking on groundwater plan to use Weld County for more extensive monitoring.

According to the Greeley Tribune, the Colorado Energy-Water Consortium said Thursday it will set up about 10 new groundwater-monitoring sites in Weld County.

Hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking, is a gas drilling process that blasts chemical-laden water deep into the ground. Environmentalists say the technique pollutes groundwater and the chemicals are unsafe.
