LA PLATA COUNTY - Bow, a 3-month-old Jack Russell/Shepherd mix puppy, had a crossbow bolt sticking out of his hind leg.

Bow was originally found in Shiprock, N.M. Someone called the local Animal Protection Office to file a report about a puppy that looked injured. Bow eventually made his way to the Farmington Animal Shelter where they surgically removed the crossbow bolt. He was put into a foster home to rehabilitate his leg and to socialize him since he was traumatized by the incident.

He was transferred to the La Plata County Humane due to the Farmington Animal Shelter's overwhelming amount of animals they currently have to care for.

"Once I heard about Bow, I knew it'd be an easy adoption, and we also want to help out the Farmington Shelter as much as we can since they're always full" Chris Nelson, the director of animal services at LPCHS, said.

The person responsible has not been arrested. Police do not have any leads on who shot Bow.

He is currently in the care of the La Plata County Humane Society in Durango.
