KUSA - The Colorado Department of Transportation closed Highway 50 from Montrose to Gunnison after an item was found along the highway.

The highway reopened around 10 p.m. Thursday.

The Colorado State Patrol said "something" was found off the highway at mile marker 135.

A Hazmat crew was called out to the scene. There were no evacuations.

Troopers say CDOT closed the large section of Highway 50 because its easier than closing smaller sections.

Multiple agencies responded, including the Grand Junction Police Department.

It's not known what the item was.
