EDWARDS - An Edwards high school freshman is recovering after he was stabbed in the chest by another student with a pair of scissors.

It happened in the boy's bathroom at Battle Mountain High School in Edwards.

The Eagle County Sherriff's Office says they were called to the school's nurse's office Tuesday afternoon and found the 15-year-old victim bleeding from the stab wound.

The victim was taken to Vail Valley Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The suspect fled the school soon after the incident, but was later located along railroad tracks in Edwards.

The 15-year-old suspect was taken to Mount View Juvenile Detention Facility in Denver. He is facing first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, which is a felony.

Investigators have not released details surrounding the stabbing.

School staff notified the students and parents of the incident.
