DENVER - A special investigator who has covered high profile cases for more than two decades says detectives are likely poring through hundreds of cases involving Tom Clements.

Sgt. Andy Hill works with the Phoenix Police Department. He says authorities in Colorado are also looking at the likelihood of a gunman targeting any other public officials.

"What's important here because of the person's position and prominence in what they do is. Is this the only person who's targeted?" Hill said.

It's unclear whether any formal threats were made against Clements recently. Hill says normally when high profiled figures get threats they'll request security guards. He says police officers and prosecutors are usually the ones who are targeted.

"It's the fear of everyone in public office. They know it rarely happens, but when it does you know how vulnerable you are," Hill said.

Prior to working in Colorado, Clements worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections for more than three decades.

Hill says investigators are also likely going through cases in Missouri that Clements worked on, involving frustrated inmates.
