MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Some extraordinary video has just been released of James Earl Ray, the man who assassinated Martin Luther King Junior.
The video is from July 1968. It shows the sheriff of Shelby County, Tenn. reading Ray his rights on a plane the FBI used to bring him back to Memphis. Ray was arrested in London three months after shooting Dr. King.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office used a video camera to capture all proceedings in Ray's case. The never-before-seen video also shows Ray being taken to prison and being strip searched. Ray pleaded guilty to killing King and was sentenced to 99 years in prison.
He died in prison in April 1998. April 4 is the 45th anniversary of MLK's death.
