DENVER - Protecting your home from intruders can be as simple as making a quick trip to your local hardware store. 9NEWS spoke with Ace Hardware about basic security measures you can install yourself for a small price tag.
A basic window or door alarm can be put in place with a piece of double-sided tape. The alarm does not come with difficult instructions to follow. It is simply placed on the window or door frame and sounds as soon as it is open. The alarm runs for a little more than $10.
A security bar is another option. The bar should be wedged between the door handle and the floor. It withstands 1,000 pounds of force and adjusts to the size of the door, which can make it more difficult for an intruder to break down a door. The bar can also be used to block sliding doors from opening. It will set you back $25.
A less expensive option to block sliding doors is a dowel rod, which runs for about $5.
There are also basic locks you can install on the bottom of sliding doors, which are detailed in the slideshow on this page.
