KUSA - A 19-year-old Denver mother was arrested Saturday trying to smuggle 210 pounds of pot from Mexico into the U.S., according to border officers.
Authorities say Lysette Salazar Miranda was with her 2-year-old son and another juvenile when she was arrested by border agents at the Santa Teresa port of entry. The two children were turned over to relatives.
The seizure was made just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday when a 2002 Ford Windstar van entered the port from Mexico. Border officers selected the vehicle for a secondary exam during which they located a trap door in the floor of the van.
They then x-rayed the vehicle and spotted anomalies in the floor of the van. Officers removed a total of 220 bundles of marijuana from a floor compartment.
The estimated street value of the pot is $168,000.
