DENVER - The man suspected of killing a woman and wounding another before being shot by police Friday morning has a long criminal record.
Based on court and police records, Daniel Abeyta, 31, has had a tumultuous relationship with the woman who owned the house where he had a standoff with police.
Abeyta is suspected of killing a woman and wounding another after he fired a gunshot at a propane tank and was shot by police in Denver.
The woman told police about a violent history with her husband. She had asked for a protection order against Abeyta, her common-law husband.
She detailed to police dozens of examples of abuse she claimed Abeyta committed in 2003.
- He hit her in the head with the butt of his gun
- Threatened to kill the family
- Hit the dog
- Came at her in their bedroom with a knife then cut up her clothes and bed
- Time after time she said there was abuse that left her cut - bruised - scared for her life
Later, she asked for an exception in the protection order be made so he could come to the property to visit their young child.
In another document the Abeyta accuses his common-law wife of hitting him with a crowbar and stabbing him.
Police have not released the names of the victims.
