WASHINGTON - An extensive review of research finds benefits to having midwives throughout pregnancy.
The review included 13 trials involving more than 16,000 women.
Overall, women who received continued care from a midwife throughout pregnancy were less likely to go into preterm labor and seemed more satisfied with their care than pregnant women who saw a team of multiple obstetricians along with midwives.
They were also no more likely to undergo a cesarean-section birth.
