DENVER (AP) - At age 78, the artist Christo is busy with lectures and exhibitions around the world, even as he waits to fulfill his Over the River project in Colorado.
Christo and his late wife, Jeanne-Claude, have received a federal permit for Over the River, which would involve suspending nearly six miles of giant fabric panels over parts of the Arkansas River.
Opponents have filed lawsuits seeking to block it due to traffic, safety, economic and environmental concerns.
Yet Christo is staying busy.
He arrived in Colorado this week for speeches Friday in Snowmass Village and Saturday in Telluride.
He has an exhibition currently running in Belgium, and an exhibit in Germany has drawn more than 250,000 visitors so far.
Exhibitions are scheduled in coming months in Germany and New Mexico.
