KUSA - Only a year after launching the gift program, Facebook is pulling the option of giving non-digital gifts from the program.
Based on numbers, Facebook users do not like to purchase real gifts for friends on a virtual social network. Only about 20 percent of users ever took advantage of the service.
However, people do use the digitial gifting service to send digital gift cards to their friends. Facebook has decided to keep this part of the program.
The so- called "Facebook Card" allows users to to pre-load a single card with various amounts of money to spend at businesses such as Starbucks and Sephora.
The social network also recently began a new mobile payments feature that would let users automatically use their payment information already stored on Facebook to make purchases in other apps.
This option goes back to a privacy issue. Storing private information such as credit card information and your home address may not be the ideal place for such sensitive information.
