KUSA- Weld County sheriff's deputies arrested a man they say pretended to be a handy man and then stole from unsuspecting homeowners.
Jesus Alejandro Portillo-Diaz was taken into custody Thursday. Deputies say Portillo was driving onto rural, remote properties, or farm houses in rural unincorporated Weld County under the guise of a "Handy Man".
They say he drove through particular areas with "Handy man" fliers and when he determined no one was home he broke into homes. He took blank checks, check books, business account information and banking information, along with small items such as jewelry, iPads, and lap top computers.
Investigators say Portillo commonly forced entry into the residences by breaking a window or glass door.
He was arrested near the areas of Weld County Roads 19 and 24 but deputies say his crimes may not be isolated to that area.
Anyone who believes they have been targeted or victimized by Jesus Alejandro Portillo-Diaz, who also goes by Alex Portillo, should contact the Weld County Sheriff's Office at 970-356-4015.
