DENVER - The bias crimes division of Denver's Police Department is investigating an incident outside a Denver hookah bar early Labor Day morning.
Jared Olson was leaving Sam's Hookah bar when he was allegedly assaulted in the parking lot. Olson says when him and his group of friends were walking out to their car, a man with a group of people started yelling homosexual slurs at them.
According to Olson, the man followed him and his friends to the car and assaulted him. Olson claims he was targeted because of his sexual orientation.
Olson is recovering from fractures in his face and other injuries. He says he will need constructive surgery.
Police say once their investigation is complete, the district attorney's office will determine whether the incident is classified as a hate crime.
