COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A 19-year-old Colorado Springs man who tried to hide the suspect of a double-murder has been sentenced to three years in a youth corrections program that emphasizes rehabilitation.
The Gazette reports that Jerel Couch was sentenced Tuesday. Authorities say Couch lied about the whereabouts of Macyo January, who is suspected of fatally shooting Fort Carson Army Staff Sgt. David Dunlap and his wife, Whitney Butler, inside their home in January. Police say the couple surprised a burglar at their home when they were shot. Butler was pregnant.
Under a plea agreement, Couch pleaded guilty in July to accessory to burglary.
January was 17 at the time of the slayings. He was arrested days later and is being charged as an adult on multiple counts of first-degree murder.
