DENVER - Two teachers at Newlon Elementary were treated for symptoms consistent with heat exhaustion Thursday.
The Denver Fire Department said both teachers, who reported the symptoms at different times of the day, complained of dizziness and had flushed skin. One teacher was transported to Denver Health, the other was treated on scene.
Extreme heat had forced Denver Public schools to close or release students early at some locations last week.
"DPS Facilities are doing everything they can to keep conditions at schools as comfortable as possible," said Kristy Armstrong with Denver Public School, "But if conditions become unsafe, we support the school's decision to close."
Newlon remained opened for the rest of the day but will close early Friday.
Five other schools will also close early Friday: Asbury Elementary, Steele Elementary, Steck Elementary, Garden Place Elementary and Beach Court Elementary.
