KUSA- Colorado's Republican Party is distancing itself from a state representative who appears to be doubling down on a comment about blacks and chicken that some are calling racist.
GOP party chairman Ryan Call wants Representative Lori Saine (R-Dacono) to apologize for bringing fried chicken to a meeting at the capitol.
On Wednesday, she prominently positioned a Popeyes box during a meeting of the Economic Opportunity Poverty Reduction Task Force. At a meeting of the same task force last month, fellow Republican Vicki Marble upset colleagues with comments about fried chicken and southern cooking.
Democrats accuse Saine of bringing the fried chicken in a silent protest to defend Marble. Thursday, Saine followed up with a series of Twitter comments making light of the situation. State Republican Party Chairman Ryan Call doesn't think it's funny.
"Rep. Saine's actions on Wednesday do not represent the Colorado Republican Party. They were insensitive and hurtful, and she must apologize for them," said Call in a written statement.
Representative Saine did not respond to 9NEWS request for comment.
