Coloradoan Media Group President and Publisher Kathy Jack-Romero said "I've heard so many stories of heroism, selflessness and compassion over the last several days. It's inspiring and it's just one of the special qualities about Coloradans. This donation, on behalf of the Fort Collins Coloradoan and 9NEWS is a small step that we can make to help our families and friends that have been impacted by this disaster. We are honored to join the thousands of others that are giving of themselves."
In addition to this donation, 9Cares Colorado Shares will be dispersing $150,000 in donated funds to Community Food Share, Weld County Food Bank and Food Bank of Larimer County. These funds will be used to replenish food supplies for these hard-hit areas in the coming weeks and months.
Lynne Valencia, 9NEWS Vice-President of Community Relations said "This is what 9Cares Colorado Shares is all about. One-hundred percent of the donations made to 9Cares go to help feed Colorado. The generosity of our community during our spring and fall drives will help feed thousands during this challenging time."
9NEWS is also partnering with the Colorado Broadcasters Association and other Colorado television and radio stations to raise funds for flood relief. The Colorado Flood Relief fundraiser will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Viewers and listeners will be asked to call-in and make a financial donation. Donations will go to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Efforts in Colorado and to Community Food Share, which will equally divide donation between Food Bank of Larimer County, Weld County Food Bank and Community Food Share. People can also give to the Red Cross by texting "Red Cross" to 90999; this will result in a $10 donation via their phone bill.
