DENVER - Homeowners across Colorado are in the midst of cleaning up their basements after catastrophic flooding hit the state. In some cases, its several feet. For others, it may just be a few tenths of an inch.

Pat Roemer with Summit Restoration, Inc. says if you have less than a half inch of water in your basement and it hasn't reached your walls, you can probably clean up the mess yourself.
He says you'll first need to remove the wet carpet and throw it away.
After that, you'll need to get a heavy-duty dehumidifier and several fans. While these can be expensive to buy, you can rent all of them at a home improvement store.
If you need to hire a professional, make sure whomever you hire is certified by the IICRC, Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification. Their website is: http://www.iicrc.org/. That web-site is also a good resource for information on how to safely clean-up from a flood.
