KUSA - At the YMCA of Boulder Valley, where evacuees are staying at a shelter set up by the Red Cross, efforts are underway to keep displaced homeowners in touch with their pets.
David Dougherty is one of those evacuees. He and his wife miss their two Chihuahuas, who are staying at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley because the YMCA can't accommodate the animals.
On Sunday, a bus showed up to take Dougherty to the Humane Society so he and his wife could see their dogs.
"We need that bonding, we need that cohesiveness," Dougherty said.
"It's excellent. It's just like coming home," he added with one of their dogs in his arms.
