DENVER - One of the most anticipated food chains to come to the area opened its doors Tuesday.
Dunkin Donuts opened two locations in Denver, one at 366 Broadway and a second store near the Denver International Airport.
Hundreds were in line when the Broadway location opened at 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Wait times to get a doughnut or coffee was more than an hour. At one point, the drive-thru line at the Broadway store stretched all the way to Colfax Avenue.
The owner of the Denver Dunkin locations, Buzz Calkins, said Tuesday's opening exceeded his expectations. He said one of the reasons the Massachusetts-based chain returned to the Denver area was the recent surge or east-coast transplants to Colorado.
"I think there is a built-in fan base here that's been waiting for this to happen," Calkins said.
Calkins said he plans to open more Denver-area stores in the coming years.
