LONGMONT - Officials from the town of Lyons told a room filled with more than 100 residents Thursday that gas and electricity will be restored to residents only if they sign a waiver.
The waiver would make residents liable for themselves and their neighbors in the event a fire started. City officials say the town's fire department does not have the needed resources or enough water to effectively respond.
FEMA, along with representatives from Xcel and the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, were also at the meeting to offer assistance and answer questions.
The town says right now, their biggest concern is the waterlines and getting the waist water plant up and running.
The town administrator says the goal is to get residents back into their homes by the holidays.
Another meeting will be held for residents at the Lifebridge Church in Longmont next Thursday at 7 p.m.
