KUSA - This weekend could mark the beginning of a race between two Colorado ski areas to be the first to open.
At Arapahoe Basin, members of the ski patrol spent the day Thursday training with Flight for Life crews. Up on the mountain, the snow guns are in place and ready to start making snow.
At Loveland, employees are warming up the chair lifts and working to get the ski area ready for opening day.
Both ski areas hope to make snow soon.
Last year, both ski area's opened in mid-October. If temperatures are cool, they could open sooner this season.
Five inches of natural snow has already fallen and more is expected this weekend.
