FORT COLLINS - On Thursday at 10:48 p.m., Fort Collins Police Services was notified of an injury collision on Prospect Road east of Shields Street.
When officers arrived, they found a Dodge Neon sedan stopped in the 800 block of west Prospect Road. A Ford Crown Victoria sedan was discovered several houses west of the Neon in a front yard. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.
From witness interviews, police believe the Neon was stopped facing westbound in the left through lane of Prospect Road at Prospect Lane preparing to make a left turn. The Crown Victoria was traveling west on Prospect Road at a high rate of speed and collided with the rear of the Neon. After colliding with the Neon, the Crown Victoria continued off the right side of the roadway, through two yards and collided with a tree.
The driver of the Neon, Emma Kimball, 22, a resident of Fruita and student at Colorado State University, was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies via ambulance for treatment of moderate injuries. Her passenger, Sanaz Ghajarrahimi, 27, of Foster City, California, was airlifted to Medical Center of the Rockies with serious injuries. Both occupants were extricated from the Neon by Poudre Fire Authority.
The driver of the Crown Victoria, Michael Dziendziel, 42, of Fort Collins, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prospect Road was closed between Sheeley Drive and Centre Avenue for approximately nine hours while investigators processed the scene. Police believe speed contributed to the collision and are working to determine if Dziendziel was driving under the influence of alcohol. The investigation is continuing.
Anyone with information about the collision, who has not already given a statement to police, is asked to contact Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-221-6555.
