KUSA - The inspiration behind "The Wake of the Flood" concert series, Danny Shafer, sat down with 9NEWS Saturday to share his story.
Shafer, his fiance and their two children lost their homes in the flood in Lyons. They didn't have flood insurance.
A family in Mead opened up their home up to Shafer's family after they were forced to evacuate Lyons. The family has found a home in Longmont, where they will move for now. However, Lyons is their home and they want to return as soon as they can.
Shafer is a full-time musician and has been in the folk and jam scene for years. Over the years he has become friends with members in bands, including Leftover Salmon, DeadPhish Orchestra, The Motet, and Mountain Standard Time. All of those bands will play in the concert Saturday.
"The Wake of the Flood" concert is the first in a series of concerts around Colorado to help raise money for flood victims. Saturday's show will be at the Fox Theatre in Boulder and starts at 9 p.m.
