DENVER - Denver has the dubious distinction of having the highest ATM fees in the nation for the second year in a row in Bankrate.com's annual checking survey, released Monday.
Denver's average ATM fee for going outside the consumer's network is $4.70, more than 30 percent higher than the average fee of $3.59 in Baltimore, which had the lowest fee out of the 25 large metro areas studied by Bankrate.com.
That fee includes both the fee charged by the ATM operator and by the consumer's own financial institution.
Denver tied for second with Atlanta for the highest average overdraft fee in the country, at $34.10. Milwaukee had the highest average overdraft fee at $34.16.
Nationwide, the average overdraft fee of $32.20 was up year-over-year for the 15th consecutive year.
