KUSA - At the age of 7, Shayna started collecting pennies in her classroom and selling lemonade with her older sister to help fight breast cancer.
The two sisters collected a total of $67. They were initially going to send a check to a breast cancer charity, however their mother wanted the girls to see how their money was being used.
Dr. Borges, whose research is focused on breast cancer, helped foster Shayna's philanthropy.
Both of the girls toured the lab and saw how their money was actually spent.
Shayna is happy to be making a difference.
