DENVER - The federal government is Colorado's largest employer, and the partial shutdown is impacting tens of thousands of workers here.
The state estimates about 40,000 federal employees in Colorado are out of work until further notice.
Prepared for an influx, Colorado set up a special website to help the furloughed federal workers to collect unemployment.
The shutdown is also affecting the Air Force Academy.
The academy may not be able to send its football team to play the Navy this Saturday. The Air Force is looking into whether it can legally use private donations instead.
But the Academy in Colorado Springs has bigger problems. A thousand civilian workers there are furloughed, postponing 20 percent of classes.
