DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - When the owners of the historic Brown Palace Hotel announced Sept. 23 they were putting it up for sale, the news released a flood of emotions for generations of Coloradans.
Marcel Pitton, managing director of the hotel, said the reaction was visceral. People called him to say how sorry they were, as if the proposed sale were like a death in the family, or might change Denver history for the worse.
It's understandable. The 121-year-old Brown Palace, for countless Denverites, is the place they got married or engaged, signed business deals, celebrated anniversaries or had tea with relatives.
