DENVER - The identity of the gunman in the Denver retirement community shooting Thursday has been released.
The Denver Coroner's Office said 65-year-old Bernie Mendez died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the Metro Manor located at 1623 Quitman Street.
Police say he critically wounded another person in a shooting at the complex before turning the gun on himself. Eyewitnesses have identified the victim as the manager of Metro Manor.
Mendez was a resident of the complex. Mendez's family members said he had issues with staff because he did not like them going into his room.
Eyewitnesses said that Mendez argued with the manager, then returned with a shotgun and shot the manager.
