KUSA - Peyton Manning set the NFL record for touchdown passes to start the season without an interception, getting TD No. 17 on Sunday in the first quarter of the 51-48 win at Dallas.
Right after that, he set the NFL record for TD passes in the first five games with Nos. 18 then 19 in the second quarter, beating Daunte Culpepper, who had 18 for the Vikings to open the 2004 season. Manning was tied with Cleveland's Milt Plum with 16 TDs without an interception.
Manning added to his NFL-record for career games with at least four TD passes, upping it to 25 with a TD pass to Wes Welker - to open the second half against Dallas.
Manning also scored to end the first half on a naked bootleg, which was his first TD run since 2008.
"Naked bootlegs only work - the ones that I've done - when you don't tell anybody," Manning said. "You call the run play and it's a run play and you just kind of make a decision there as you get to the line of scrimmage based on the right look and you think, they're going to maybe slant one way.
"As soon as we brought Julius (Thomas) in motion, the guy covering him, went with him. I kind of said, 'well, that's a good look for it.' I'll be retired by the time I'm able to do it again."
Manning finished the game with 414 yards passing (33-of-42) and four touchdown passes. This season, he has 1,884 yards passing on a 75.8 percent completion rate (150-of-198). In his career, Manning now has thrown 456 TD passes and 210 interceptions.
Manning moved into second all-time on the NFL's career passing yards, jumping over Miami's Dan Marino. Manning now has 61,371 yards to Marnio's 61,361. Brett Favre holds the record with 71,838 yards with Green Bay, N.Y. Jets and Minnesota.
Tom Brady holds the NFL record for TD passes in a season with 50 in 2007, and Manning is second with 49 in 2004. Manning has not led the NFL in passing touchdowns in a season since his 31 scores were best in the 2006 season.
Coming into the game, Manning had a personal-best streak of 201 passes without an interception. The Broncos' team record is 229 by Jake Plummer in 2005. Manning had 14 passes attempts in the first half Sunday against Dallas, but threw an interception on his 26th pass of the game.
"It was a bad decision," Manning said of the pick. " We were trying to get something down the field. They were in zone coverage. I thought I might be able to get one in there. Didn't make a good throw but it really wasn't a good decision as well, so certainly a bad time for it.
"I never really got into any kind of streak. You're always trying to protect the ball. Certainly, that was not a good time."
Brady holds the NFL record with 358 consecutive pass attempts without an interception, which spanned the 2010 -11 seasons. The previous record was 308 by Cleveland's Bernie Kosar set in 1991.
