GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - The Weld County District Attorney's Office says a Greeley police officer was justified in a shooting that wounded an unarmed man during a standoff at an apartment complex.
The Greeley Tribune reports officers were called to the University Tower apartment complex near Lincoln Park on Sept. 12 on a tip that someone there had active warrants for his arrest.
Police say Kelly Lynn Ryan held them at bay for about an hour, was acting erratically and threatened to shoot officers. The standoff ended when an officer shot Ryan through a window, wounding the man's arm and neck.
An affidavit says officers feared for their lives after hearing two loud bangs they thought were gunshots coming from inside the apartment.
