LYONS - The community of Lyons came together Friday to say goodbye to a former elementary school teacher who lost his life in the massive flood.
Lifebridge Christian Church was filled all afternoon with people wanting to help memorialize Gerry Boland. The 80 year old was swept away by high water as he tried to reconnect with his wife.
Boland spent 54 years of his life with his wife and thirty years at Lyons Elementary.
His daughter told the crowd Friday that she hoped they would be able to enjoy the same kind of love and appreciation of life that her father had found in the town of Lyons.
