FRISCO, Colo. (AP) - Crews working on the expansion of Interstate 70 in the Twin Tunnels area say they are set to meet the first of the project's major milestones by the end of October.
The Summit Daily reports crews expect to open three lanes of eastbound I-70 traffic between Hidden Valley and the bottom of Floyd Hill. That means drivers will be able to use three lanes all the way to Denver, once they navigate the Twin Tunnels detour.
Thad Noll, assistant Summit County manager, tells the newspaper the tunnel bore should be open to three lanes of traffic by the end of the year.
The Colorado Department of Transportation says improving the Twin Tunnels is the first of several projects designed to improve safety and mobility along the interstate.
