KUSA - The Chaffee County Sheriff's Office says a 14-year-old boy died of a gunshot wound to the chest while on a family hunting trip Saturday afternoon.
Ian Dante Muro, from Brighton, was hunting in San Isabel National Forest with his father, mother, and grandfather when he went off a short distance by himself.
Family members say they heard a single gunshot and found the boy lying face up and motionless nearby, his rifle across his chest. He was found four miles west of County Road 221 near Forest Service Road 222.
The Sheriff's Office says early indicators point to the shooting being accidental and self-inflicted, but it is still under investigation.
An autopsy in Salida is scheduled for Monday. The official determination of the cause and manner of death will be released by the coroner.
