GRAND JUNCTION - Grand Junction police are looking for a man who stole a pet monkey from a woman Monday morning.
Police say the monkey's owner, a Missouri woman, was selling the black cap Capuchin monkey. The woman met the man in the parking lot of La Quinta Inn off Interstate-70 around 6 a.m.
While outside the hotel, the man sprayed the woman in the face with pepper spray, grabbed the pet carrier containing the monkey, and took off on foot.
Police do not know if the man was able to get into a vehicle, or which direction he was heading. The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The woman described the suspect as a Middle-Eastern male, 35 to 40 years old, 5'5? tall, thin build, with a short beard. He was wearing glasses, a blue shirt, and possibly a vest.
Police say it is illegal to possess a black cap Capuchin Monkey in Colorado.
