BROOMFIELD - It was so dark that when a man driving an SUV hit something in the middle of the road he couldn't tell what it was, according to police.
According to a Broomfield Police Officer, when the man stopped he discovered he had hit and killed a man, and called 9-1-1. The victims' body was on the roof of his vehicle.
Investigators believe the man was walking down the middle of the highway. They are trying to determine why.
Police do not suspect alcohol, drugs or high speed to be factors in the crash. The driver has been cooperative with police.
The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
A section of Highway 7 was closed near Sheridan Parkway around 2 a.m. for the accident investigation. Investigators hope to have that section of the road open by 6 a.m.
Highway 7 is heavily used during the morning rush by commuters from Broomfield and Boulder counties.
The Broomfield County Coroner will determine the victim's official cause of death.
