LYONS - Lyons artist Donnie Mortimer has created a public art display out of flood debris in the middle of downtown.
Objects include photo albums, furniture, and lawn tools. All of them washed away during the flood.
"It's cathartic," Mortimer said. "Just to create a space for people's grief."
The flood shrine has been up for a few days. Mortimer invites those whose property is in the display to take it but to leave something else behind.
"It's peoples' property. But we've put it together to remind us how strong we are," Lyons resident Gabry Cornell said.
She's not the only one who has been spending time at the shrine to reflect.
"I just can actually let myself feel things that I haven't been letting myself feel during the day. Here, time stands still, and you can just be and feel what all this is," Lyons resident Shannon Johnson said.
