PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - About 30 black-footed ferrets that are natural predators of prairie dogs have been released in Colorado by wildlife officials.
Biologists have bred thousands of black-footed ferrets in captivity, but they are not a self-sustaining species in the wild.
In 1967, the black-footed ferret was listed as endangered and protected.
Ranchers are welcoming the release because prairie dogs cause considerable damage on ranchland by burrowing under prime feeding areas.
