Contact Nick McGurk
Nick McGurk is the Northern Newsroom reporter for 9NEWS. He mainly covers Larimer and Weld counties, but occasionally reports out of Denver.
Nick is a backpack journalist who shoots, writes and edits his reports. He even runs his own live truck from the field as he covers Northern Colorado.
He has been touched and humbled by the people of Northern Colorado, who have opened up to him during the best and worst of times.
In the summer of 2012, Nick spent most days covering wildfires, including the High Park Fire.
Stories Nick covers range from those about Colorado State University to the oil and gas industry in Weld County. He was particularly inspired by the story of a volunteer firefighter out of Yuma County who nearly lost her life during the Heartstrong Fire of 2012.
He will never forget his interview with a woman who got married in the hospital, from the ICU and surrounded by her family, though she knew she would soon die.
Nick also likes telling stories that make people smile - one of his favorites is a story about a fainting goat farm in Loveland.
Nick is an Emmy-nominated journalist who came to 9NEWS from WNDU-TV in South Bend, Indiana. He reported and anchored there and, yes, became a Notre Dame fan. Nick grew up in Minnesota, however, and will be a Vikings fan always. (The Broncos are growing on him, but loyalty is loyalty!)
Nick also spent time working as a reporter at WBOY-TV in Clarksburg, West Virginia before working in South Bend. He has worked as a producer for CNN; interned for Bloomberg Television in Washington, D.C.; and reported for Deutsche Welle Radio in Bonn, Germany. Nick is a graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, with a minor in German.
Nick really wants a dog - so if you find a great rescue dog, let him know! He's always checking his email at email@example.com, or tweeting at twitter.com/nickmcgurk.
