Thompson was charged with one count of second-degree kidnapping and one count of sexual assault on a child.

He appeared in a red jumpsuit with shackles at his wrists and feet.

His preliminary hearing has been set for July 19 when the evidence in his case will be presented.

The judge ordered the prosecution and the defense not to speak to the media about this case; the order is similar to what some jurisdictions call a gag order.
