"The presence that he has at [age] 10 is nothing that I ever would have had at this age. So it's incredible to watch him," said Miles' mother Lynnea Louison.
Miles had to pitch his product in front of a panel of judges in order to win Startup Weekend Denver. About a dozen entrepreneurs competed in the event. In the course of a weekend, it aims to build a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business. As the winner, Miles will now compete on a global scale.
"He's going to compete with 65 other cities, across 25 other countries," said Startup Weekend Denver organizer Jon Rossi.
Ten-year-old Miles started his own business when he was only eight years old. The business, formerly known as The Dessert Company, focused on a signature product: candy sushi.
"It's Rice Krispies. And it has Twizzlers and Gummiworms with a real-fruit fruit rollup on the outside," said Miles, who admits to eating some of his product before he can sell it.
With help provided at Startup Weekend Denver, Miles developed a new logo and company name: Sushimee. If he wins the global competition, he will take his business international, with a free trip to Asia.
Voting begins on Nov. 22. To vote for Miles: www.globalstartupbattle.com. To find out more about Sushimee, go here: www.sushimee.com.
