The teens were celebrating their graduation from high school and from Cherry Creek School District's AVID program.

AVID is an acronym for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The program sets the bar high, beginning in elementary school and prepares students to go to college.

One of the students in the Cherokee Trail graduating class had been participating in AVID since the first grade.
