Denver Mayor Michael Hancock says this new service will, "create new jobs, generate $130 million in annual economic benefit to Colorado, and elevate Denver as a world-class city on the global stage."

Securing a nonstop flight to Asia from DIA has been in the works for more than a decade and is feasible now in large part to the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which United will operate on this new Denver route. The 787 is much more efficient compared to other long-haul aircraft.

The flight from Denver to Tokyo is now available for sale at United.com and through other channels.

"This new route is great news for Denver and Colorado," Bennet said. "This connection with Japan and Asia will open doors to new business opportunities, increased tourism, and cultural and economic collaboration, underscoring Denver's role as a hub for innovation in the 21st century," Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet said.
