JANUARY/FEBRUARY
January started relatively calm, but things ramped up rapidly in February.
9News Meteorologist Kathy Sabine said February is usually one of our driest months, but this year it was the second snowiest in Denver.
The National Weather Service recorded 20.2 inches of snow. The snowiest year: 1912 with 22.1 inches of snow.
MARCH
March is usually Denver's snowiest month, but it was the driest this year. DIA registered only a trace of snow. But March didn't disappoint; it was the second hottest March on record, coming in about nine degrees above normal.
APRIL/MAY
In April, Denver came in at the seventh warmest in history with an average temperature of 53.3 degrees. The warmest years: 1946 and 1981 with average temperatures of 56.4 degrees.
The National Weather Service said May was a little calmer. The month was a little above normal but stuck with that above normal trend.
JUNE
June was a month no one will soon forget. It was awash with storms and records.
It started with severe weather, including hail storms and tornadoes in parts of the state.
Then the extreme heat began. Denver saw five consecutive 100 degree days in the month of June. It was only the third time in Denver weather history that happened.
Two consecutive days at 105 degrees in June tied Denver's all time annual record high temperature.
JULY
July is here and monsoon showers has already dumped over two inches of rain at the 9news studios. Since January 1, we've had 5.22 inches of rain.
The average is 8.02 inches up to Monday. Last year we already had over 11 inches of rain.
Jim Kalina with the National Weather Service said much of the strange weather is due to the end of an extended La Nina weather cycle.
